Our Field Service Technician apprenticeship combines hands-on training with paid employment, leading to a nationally recognised qualification. Apprentices are based at one of our depots across the UK, while also spending time at college and at JCB’s global headquarters in Rocester.
Throughout the programme, you will be supported by a dedicated Apprentice Officer and experienced in-house mentors. You will gain practical, real-world skills by working on live machinery and facing real operational challenges.
Each apprentice follows a tailored learning plan, with regular progress reviews, on-site assessments and ongoing guidance to ensure you develop the skills, confidence and experience needed for a long-term career.

FAQs About Apprenticeships
How long does it last?
The apprenticeship programmes last for three to four years, depending on the individual. Most of your time is spent employed at Watling JCB where you learn on the job, but with the added benefit of some classroom and workshop tuition at the chosen College.
What qualifications do I need to apply?
Applicants should ideally have a minimum of three GCSE grades A-C and a minimum A-C in Maths and English, with a willingness to learn and an interest in working at Watling JCB.
What qualifications will I get?
IMI Level 3 Land-based Service Engineer Technician
What does it cost?
There are no tuition fees. Watling JCB pays the apprentices wages and covers the tuition and accommodation costs for the residential training.
