The 3CX Hydrogen is fitted with a 55kW hydrogen combustion engine that matches the torque and output of JCB’s standard diesel unit — so operators get familiar handling and productivity, just without the carbon output. On a typical duty cycle, running this machine in place of a diesel equivalent can cut around 9,000 tonnes of CO2 a year. Because it doesn’t rely on a grid connection to refuel or operate, it’s equally suited to remote sites and busy urban builds, giving contractors flexibility wherever the work is.

One of the standout advantages of the 3CX-H is that it’s approved for use on UK public roads, meaning your team can drive it directly to site rather than arranging separate transport. Paired with the 6-speed autoshift and torque lock gearbox, journey times drop by around 10%, and fuel-efficiency gains mean less time and cost spent getting from depot to job.

Loading output hasn’t been sacrificed for cleaner power. The high-capacity front shovel can fill a 20-tonne lorry in under five minutes, while the Auto Smooth Ride System cuts vibration and reduces the risk of spillage during transport around site. Integrated cameras improve sightlines during fork work, and the single-lever control – with 6-in-1 functionality and an FNR switch built into the lever – keeps cycle times tight and operation straightforward.

The 3CX-H is built to shift material fast: up to 190 tonnes an hour using buckets sized up to 0.48m³. The extending dipper reaches out to 6.5m for greater trench depth and working range, and a hydraulic quick hitch lets operators swap between buckets, breakers, compactors and other attachments in moments. Inside, the cab is designed for long days on site: hands-free phone pairing, Bluetooth radio and LED work lighting come as standard, and a 7-inch in-cab display gives real-time updates on machine health, alongside servicing guidance and integrated media controls — all without leaving the seat.
